
Q. What inspired you to pursue a career in construction, and what continues to motivate you today?
A. My love for construction started at a early age. As a child, I spent a lot of quality time with my dad renovating his properties. The skills and memories I have from him are what inspired me to get into construction. Seeing how proud my dad is of what I’ve accomplished is what motivates me to keep growing and progressing.
Q. What made you choose BHB—especially in terms of the growth and opportunity you were looking for?
A. I knew right away that BHB was the perfect choice for me. I really liked that BHB was women owned. I also really liked the culture. I could tell BHB invested a lot into their employees to help them grow.
Q. What have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve experienced so far, and how have you handled them?
A. Everyday in construction there’s new challenges. I think for me learning how to stay calm in stressful moments was a big challenge. But I learned even in the moments where nothing is going to plan, and it feels like everything is crashing around you. Staying calm and collected, not showing panic, and coming up with creative solutions is how you get through it.
Q. What has your experience been like working with Bald Hill Builders, and what makes this company stand out to you?
A. One thing I really love about BHB is they get to know your strengths and passions in construction and they support your individual growth. One of my passions is safety, and BHB has supported me to become a part of their safety culture. Since joining the BHB team I’ve been able to become a leader in safety on site. This has gave me a lot of confidence, and allowed me to grow.
Q. What are your long-term career goals, and how can we support you in reaching them?
A. My goal is to become a well rounded experienced superintendent. Everyday at BHB I learn something new. I have a amazing support system here at BHB. My hopes are to keep learning from my peers, keep growing, and progressing.
Q. Are there ways the industry or jobsite culture can better support women or underrepresented workers?
A: I think the culture of women in construction has really progressed in the last decade. When I first started in construction, as a women it was very hard to gain respect and be taken seriously. I do think the industry can still improve more in supporting women in construction, but it has come a long way!
Q. Why do you think diversity and inclusion are important in the construction industry?
A. I think diversity and inclusion are very important in construction. I think everyone should have the opportunity to grow in this industry. And I truly that having a diverse workforce culture, makes us stronger. Everyone has different knowledge and life experiences, being able to share our knowledge, experiences and mistakes makes us stronger as a group.
Q. What impact do you hope to make in this field—especially regarding representation, opportunity, and inclusion?
A: I would like to show other women that there is a place for them in construction. That they can bring unique perspective and knowledge to the industry.
Q. What advice would you give other women who are considering a career in construction?
A: Don’t give up!!! If you want to be in the industry, there is a place for you. There’s always going to be hard days, but the good days make it worth it. Don’t let others allow you to doubt yourself, know your value
